I didn’t exactly register for a vacuum cleaner but my fiance and I did buy one at wal*mart before christmas. It was a bag-less eureka something and it has a lime green canister and it is white< so freaking cute!! It was only $40 and we love it. It works amazing. We got my sister one for christmas because hers went out and she loves hers. So I guess I am saying that Eureka is a good brand. My mom owns her own cleaning service and highly recommends OOreck expensive, Panasonic, and Eureka as well as a few others. Good luck!!! I think that the Hoovers may be really heavy and aawkwardto mmaneuverthat may be why it got a bad review. Every Hoover I have used while helping my mom work, was uunnecessarilybulky and heavyReferences :

Put on your registry what you want. You aren’t making anyone buy you anything. Groups of people will go in to buy the big items. My husband and I registered for and got the Dyson Animal. I LOVE that vacuum; it is amazing

I’d recommend against a bagless, because they can be a real mess when you have to change the container. Make sure that you check it carefully.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a positive recommendation to make. The only vaccuum cleaners we found at the Bay were in the $500-$600 range, and had far more features/power than we will need. Instead of looking at anonymous reviews, maybe try Consumer Reports. Your library should have some dead-tree copies, so you don’t have to pay the fees to get them yourself, however it’s quite reasonable if you want to evaluate a lot of products.

Take that one review like a grain of salt. Our culture (especially the younger ones) are whiny and cheap and expect things to work the same way all the time. That bad review probably found one little tiny flaw or got the lemon of the group and decided to complain about it.

Here’s the thing with vacuum cleaners: you really do get what you pay for. Most vacuums that are under $150-$200 simply do not function well and often break within a few years.
Many stores offer registry completion programs (after your wedding, you receive a discount-typically 10 or 15%-on any unpurchased items on your list). I did not register at the places you did, so you would have to inquire about this registry perk. If they do offer a registry completion program, I would suggest registering for a higher quality vacuum, even if it is a little more expensive than what you were thinking of. Some people will inevitably give you money instead of physical gifts, so if you really need a vacuum you could purchase it at a lower price after the wedding. Some people also like to contribute to a joint gift, so you could receive the vacuum after all!
Bissell is an excellent brand for vacuums. If you still want to register for a vacuum under $140, they have a few models in that price range (just keep in mind that they will be of lower quality than the more expensive ones) Hope this helps!

we registered for two. We registered for the "nice" vacuum to be the larger dyson that is on the ball thing. It’s suppose to be awesome, but about $400….

However, we were surprised because as a secondary vacuum (one to keep upstairs to not lug the bigger one around) we registered for the little green eureka optima (it has the rounded handle) at bed bath and beyond (about $60). Someone gave us the eureka a couple months ago and we LOVE IT…. I cannot believe it. It has TONS of power and really works well. We are very pleased. The associate that was helping us when we registered said it is their most sold vacuum.

**** as a follow up to the other comment. register for whatever you want. even if it’s expensive… most people are educated in basic wedding etiquitte and understand the concept of a "completion discount" (meaning anything you registered for that was not purchased by wedding guests is offered for a discount, typically 10-20% for a period of time following your wedding). I have known friends that registered for $900 couched at pottery barn… they didn’t expect someone to buy it, but they bought it at a discount with their wedding money!!! ***

Your not going to get a vacuum as a gift unless you have rich relatives or friends. From experience that I have learned never register for really expensive gifts because it makes you look spoil,
