Cleaning an Area Rug

If you want to clean an area rug (which is small carpet or rug) you should know that rug and carpet cleaning is a simple process that can be applied to virtually all sized rugs and carpets.

Should you clean an area rug by yourself? If you hire a professional rug or carpet cleaner what you are essentially going to pay for is convenience since you can easily get the same results that they get with their equipment. They are recommended if you need to clean a very big rug, which isn’t the case with small area rugs.

The first thing you should do, before getting the stains off of your carpet, is vacuuming. After that, apply a spot treatment to the stains. If you are not satisfied with the results, you’re going to have to get more intense.

If you search for a carpet cleaner online or in some home improvement stores you’re going to find devices that look like vacuum cleaners, which are called steam cleaners by their producers. You should know that they use no steam whatsoever. The proper name for them would be hot water extractors. Although they don’t use steam, they are very effective in getting rid of rug or carpet stains.

What if you want something more powerful than one of those steam cleaners? Or what if you dont want to pay around $200 to get one? Both of these problems can be solved by renting a more powerful hot water extractor, which you can get at your local grocery store, home improvement store, or UHAUL. They look like mini refrigerators and will cost you roughly $20 for an hours use. They are essentially retail hot water extractors on steroids.

The hot water extractors, which you can rent, are the same ones used by many professional rug or carpet cleaning companies. As such, you can save your money by renting these machines. Some professional carpet cleaners also use steam, which is effective in making a carpet look like new. Regardless, a steam cleaning isn’t going to get you that much better results that a rented or retail hot water extractor.
