Cordless Vacuum Cleaners: True Alternatives To Corded Models?

Cordless vacuum cleaners are yet another step forward for vacuum cleaners in general. What do these cordless wonders offer that traditional corded vacuum cleaners don’t? Convenience, utility, and just like their names imply: quickness.

A cordless model of vacuum makes cleaning up after dinner quick and easy because the unit can be stored nearby without taking up much room. All you have to do is grab it and turn it on, vacuum up any crumbs on the floor, and then return it to its cradle to get recharged. It sure beats having to go fetch the large, heavy corded vacuum, plugging it in and vacuum the floor two or three times a day.

This isn’t to say the corded types are no good anymore. They are much more powerful, don’t depend on rechargeable batteries, and will clean much deeper if you’ve got carpeting. However, between weekly ‘big vac’ cleaning, the cordless vacuum can take care of the smaller stuff and in general keep your house much cleaner than only vacuuming every once in a while.

There are many features of cordless vacuums. Swivel-neck designs allow you to turn and pivot the sweeping head of the vacuum with a turn of your wrist. You will find that most of these vacuums are rather slim, so they can fit easily under low furniture as well. In addition to the main roller, some cordless vacuums have additional spinning brushes on either side to get into corners and under baseboards. Also, instead of using bags, most models have removable sections for you to take out and easily dump out the dirt that has been picked up over time. It is recommended to do this after each vacuuming session as too much debris piling up can affect the vacuum’s ability to pick up more debris from the ground.

Another extension to these vacuums is the small, automated kind.. These cordless vacuum cleaner robots will leave their cradles on their own, vacuum on that course you set, and then return to their charging cradles all on their own. There are even models of these robotic helpers that you don’t need to program because they learn the layout of the room on their own and automatically travel where they need to go. While these robotic vacuums are nice to have, and they are certainly a help, having a standard cordless vacuum is a good idea for extra cleaning and to give you the choice of which you want to use.

Though cordless vacuum cleaners are not able to completely replace traditional corded vacuum models, they are still very useful for certain situations or just cleaning periodically. They are very lightweight, can be carried anywhere, can basically reach anywhere, and they don’t need to be tethered to a cord. What more do you need?

Trying to keep your carpet clean, but can’t bring yourself to pull out the old heavy vacuum every day? Cordless vacuum cleaners can make vacuuming no big deal due to their light weight and easy storage.
