Keeping Your Bathroom Clean and Healthy

If you thought that the bathroom was the busiest room in the house then you may be more right than you think. According to some of the the experts at the large web site on health, WebMD, the average bathroom in the house contains thousands of germs and different types of viruses. These range from E. coli bacteria to the rhinovirus which are linked to cold and flu like infections.

It does not mean you should put a ban on the bathroom as many of these bugs we are accustomed to living with. There are, however, a few tips to make it a safer and cleaner place:

Dental Health

Store your toothbrush properly to make sure the brush does not pick up any germs. Make sure you keep it on a countertop, away from the toilet and sink to reduce the risk of airborne contamination from water splashing onto them. Also, do not store toothbrushes together, in close proximity. Doing so can increase the chance of germs spreading from brush to brush and then infecting the mouth.

Changing the toothbrush regularly is important as germs can build up over time. Some toothbrushes like the Oral B pulsar has a battery inside which dies after about three to four months of use. This is helpful as this is about the time you should replace a brush and so is a good reminder.

Healthy Soap Choice

Liquid soap is thought, by many experts, to be a cleaner option then bar soaps. Usually a bar of soap will sit in a dish or on top of a sink. As a result it can stay sitting in residue, containing germs from the last person that used it. Therefore, liquid soap from a pump dispenser can prevent this and is a cleaner option.

Teaching kids to wash their hands regularly is also easily achievable with a gentle liquid soap. it is advised that children should wash their hands for about 20 seconds at a time around four times a day. it is also important to wash them every time after using the bathroom.

Towel Hygiene

After using a bathroom towel it should be hung up to dry immediately and should also be regularly washed in hot water. This can help prevent germs from multiplying on towels and it stops them from smelling musty Also reducing towel sharing in the house can prevent the transmission of bugs, especially those causing the skin infection impetigo.

These are just a few simple recommendations that can be easily implemented. Following them will make your bathroom a much healthier place to be in.
