Dyson DC07 Noise-levels

The test-cleaner is my Dyson DC07 Origin, bought brand new in December 2008.

- The yellow-topped cyclone embly is the one which came with the cleaner.

- The red-topped one comes from my older DC07 Low Reach +HEPA.

Aside from the colours, at a glance, they both look identical, but see what difference in sound the 2 root-cyclone designs make?

The noise you hear in the video comes entirely from the cyclone embly, not the brush-roll.

Also, the DC14 has a totally different Root Cyclone design; they’re the other way up, for a start!

I believe it’s due to the redesign of the internal parts of the Root8 cyclones.

Older models used a slightly different design, which showed a tendancy to clog over a period of time. The newer design doesn’t have this problem, but seems to be louder and higher-pitched.

My DC07 Clic, which uses the older design, is also quiet, like the red one.

so whats causing the higher pitch on the yellow one compared to the red

No..it doesn’t. The inlet-seal is on the machine itself, so it’s the same in both cases, and the red cyclone’s exit seal is also completely intact.

I think the sounds are different because the yellow seals better than the red. I think the red has air coming in through the seals from around the bin.
