HAs anyone bought the i robot roomba?

Has anyone bought the roomba? Im about to buy it but i want it for a cheap but new. anyways i wanna know about the quality and efficiency. pls dont post a link for a website ive done research i want your honest opinion. please give details and write the model and color u have thanks! happy new year

I love mine. It works especially well for cleaning the dust and pet hair off the hardwoods. I still use the regular upright vac for the carpets some, but the roomba is great to keep things looking good all the time. Buy the most expensive one you can afford; it has sturdier features. You will have to clean the brushes off occasionally.

ya i have the iRobot Roomba Intelligent Floorvac Robotic Vacuum and it is red. and i must say that i have been disappointed by it. my mom gave it to me last year for a gift and I tried using it a few times but it is just so slow. i mean i have a tiny one bedroom apt and it would take roomba like 2 hrs to vaccuum it. i must say that it did a good job picking everything up, but for the price it costs and the amount of time it takes to use, i stopped using it and just bought a regular vacuum. im much happier just using a traditional vacuum and just getting it done!

It is good for spot cleaning only. But your vaccum is faster and better.

We bought a 550, which we really liked at first, but after a couple of days we started having problems, and have subsequently returned it to the store for a refund. It started making a knocking sound, and would stop after a few minutes of use indicating that it needed its brushes, and or wheels cleaned. After doing some research, I found a youtube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQ1l8FikTwo&feature=related) which I am sure explains the problem: Basically, the plastic gear box is constructed in a way that allows dirt and other foreign objects access, which in my experience resulted in damage to the gears (which caused the knocking sound), and possibly damaged the gearbox itself. Not clear if this is a design or manufacturing problem (it is made in China), but after looking at the video and comparing it to what I saw with my machine, I wouldn't recommend this product until the quality is improved.

Before I returned the machine, I sent off a message to IRobot technical support explaining the problem, but I never got a response from them, and can only assume that they are aware of the problem.

I love the concept, and would consider buying another robotic vacuum, as it could be a real time saver for me, but the current generation of this product is very cheaply made. Don't buy it!!!
