Kirby Tradition vs. Dyson DC-04 HEPA Absolute+ whatever
This video is a “just for fun” video, everyone who knows me on youtube and elsewhere knows my opinion of Dysons… Anyway, I pitch the Dyson against my Kirby Tradition, both are bagless (the Tradition being fitted with a Shake-out bag), both have 2 handfuls of shredded paper and both have an equal playing field, so, which does the best? Well, watch and see…

Yep, it’s a pointless thing that doesn’t deserve the money they’re sold for…

Dyson is nothing …
Dyson is nothing but a plasti-vac and the kirby is an awsome all metal machine.

Kirby always kicks dyson’s butt.

i’m not surprised that there’s a bunch of dyson loving s out there.

Well, conclusive …
Well, conclusive testing (not by myself though) has proved that the Dyson doesn’t perform as well as a Kirby does, they don’t last as long as a Kirby does, and they’re not as reliable as a Kirby is, so if I was given the choice of a free model from either brand, I’d go for the Kirby hands down…
Don’t listen to the hype of James Dyson, it is all rubbish, and at the end of the day, he didn’t even invent the idea, he stole it from industrial vacuums!!!

Well, I only paid …
Well, I only paid £30 for my Tradition in the video, and £57 (plus a free electrolux plastivac as an £18 deposit) for my G5, and my LegendII x2, Heritage84, ClassicIII and Gold Tradition were free, so, no credit ripoffs for me!!! I personally hate the way they sell Kirbys, but they are great machines that last. As I said in a previous comment, the tradition is older than me, and is still going strong, I can’t see a Dyson doing that in 20 something years time, can you?

Well, to each his …
Well, to each his own. I just know people that have been kind of conned into their “credit” plans over the years. Also I have personally used a Kirby my mom bought and it weighed like 50 pounds. I’m sure it’s a very well made vacuum, but the couple people I know who have bought them don’t use them any more… To me it’s kind of funny that we would even compare a 2000$ vacuum to a 400$ one. Normally you compare products in the same price range. I’ll stick with my Dyson.

They are, my …
They are, my Tradition’s older than me (made in 1981 and I was born in 85), and the only thing that has gone wrong with it was the headlight connections had corroded before I got it, but a quick scrape & file later and it was fine again…
But as Kirby still make parts for this and older models, it’s a testament to their lifetime guarantee of new parts, though not for free, but they’re cheap enough from “cleaner48″ on ebay…

Fair dos, if you …
Fair dos, if you want to bay $500 each time you need to replace your Dyson or Miele, being made of ABS plastic, ten that’s your choice, but a Kirby does last, and there are models from 70+ years ago still running today that have daily use in the past, I’d like to see a Dyson or miele in the same amount of time and see if they still work or still have parts available to repair them…

Hmm… 500 Dollars …
Hmm… 500 Dollars for at least 5 years with the 5 year warranty, or have some desperate salesman come to my house and vacuum up a huge pile of paper. Then try to sell me a vacuum for 2000 bucks. Sorry, no thanks.
Kirby has a gimmick too. They use metal and act like just because its made of metal its automatically better. I’ve had my Dyson for 3 years now and it still kicks butt. My next vacuum will be a Meiele more than likely, but Kirby I’m sorry to say are just a circus sideshow joke.

Who wants to spend …
Who wants to spend $500+ on a piece of plastic that won’t even last 5 years?
Do you know anything about vacuums? The Diesoon may appear to pick up better, on the surface. When it comes to actual deep cleaning, a fork could do better than the Diesoon.

People who …
People who demonstrate their vacuum collection of course, just search on here for other users…
The problem with the Dyson is it hasn’t got the capacity to handle an average home, you have to empty it often. And the Dyson’s suction is only on one side, which is why it jammed up…
As for Kirbys, if you buy one from a salesman and don;t bargain with him, yes, they’re 2000 bucks, but my entire collection of Kirbys cost less than £150 (~$250), so they’re not that expensive…
April 12th, 2009 at 7:22 am
who the …
who the vacuums up a huge pile of paper?
to me it looked like the Dyson actually did a better job after you didnt overlaod with that pile of paper.
Also the Kirby is like 2000 bucks. If you want to pay 2000 bucks because your tin can picks up HUGE piles of paper faster, more power to you.
For every day vacuuming, the Dyson is much better, hands down.

To get the video to …
To get the video to fit into the 10 minute Youtube time slot, I had to edit out the brushroll spinning after I freed it up, so I ure you, it was spinning up until it jammed up on the opposite side from the suction…
Also, the screaming from the cluth wouldn’t have happened if the brushroll was off…

Yeah, the DC-04 in …
Yeah, the DC-04 in the video was my fault, I fell for the Dyson hype about them being better cleaners, but it turned out to be a pain in the backside, better to just have replaced the paper bag and the fan in the old Kirby LegendII (which I have sold now) and just kept using that, but there you go, live and learn… :S

There are two basic cons when it comes to a Kirby. First is the weight. Even the old ones weigh a ton. Second is the inconvenience of having to remove the head to use attachments.
Having said this, I own 5 of them, having had them bequeathed upon me by members of the family. There fore the weight doesn’t bother me since I have one on every floor. In fact, I currently am having a tradition rebuilt for a grand total of 60 dollars.
